There are over 35 procedural nurses at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. These procedural nurses assist with a
variety of specialty procedures that were once performed only through Surgical interventions. They represent the highest
level of Diagnostic and Therapeutic advances in medicine.
Each procedural nurse has the opportunity to be crossed trained to function competently throughout the seven diagnostic
service areas. These areas include; Endoscopy, Cath Lab, Electrophysiology lab, Invasive Radiology, MRI, Cat scan, and
Radiation Medicine.
Procedural nurses are technically proficient in their specialty areas as they assist physicians with all types of diagnostic
testing and therapeutic interventions. In addition, they provide routine patient care in a professional and compassionate
manner while meeting the individual needs of each patient. These skilled nurses reduce the recovery time for the patient, reduce
pain to the patient and serves to provide the patient with a quicker return to their normal daily activities.
As technology continues to advance within the procedural areas, our nurses continue to learn new skills and techniques that
keep the University of Kentucky on the cutting edge of technology by maintaining a reputation of leadership in the field of
Diagnostic and Therapeutic medicine.
