The mission of Nursing Research at the University of Kentucky Hospital (UKNR) is to advance evidence-based and research-based nursing practice and to conduct nursing research that advances nursing practice and identifies and supports improvements in healthcare outcomes for the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Our Vision is to aid the people of Kentucky and beyond in optimizing their health by excellence in nursing care.
- Provide leadership and expertise for developing research proposals, conducting research and disseminating research findings
- Conduct high quality research that improves nursing practice, contributes to cost-effective care, influences policy development, and is nationally recognized
- Foster the development of new nurse researchers through clinical training and research opportunities
- Develop the profile of nursing research in Central Kentucky
- Develop interdisciplinary, local, national and international links and research partnerships
- Provide a mentoring process that supports the development of new clinical researchers
These goals are subject to the allocation of adequate financial resources.
The research priorities for Nursing Research at the University of Kentucky Hospital have been established in conjunction with Nursing Services and the College of Nursing to build on existing programs. The research priorities are categorized into three areas:
- Prevention and management of acute and chronic health problems
- Health services research focused on improvement of health outcomes
- Nursing care delivery research focused on improvement of health outcomes
