Cardiothoracic Step-Down Unit
Description of Patient Population
- Adult patients who have had any type of cardiothoracic surgery that are hemodynamically stable transferred from the intensive care unit, and pre-operative candidates for the above surgeries including those on cardiac ventricular-assist devices awaiting heart transplantation.
Number of Beds
- 12 bed unit with telemetry monitoring.
Special Programs
- Nurses collaborate with Pharmacy, Dietetics, Rehabilitation Therapies, Social Services, and the Heart/Lung Coordinators in order to meet the needs of the patients.
Staffing Patterns
- Staffing ratio is 4 patients/RN and 1 Nursing Care Technician.
