Acute Care
Description of Patient Population
- Cystic Fibrosis and other metabolic disorders, neural tube defects, congenital heart disease, childhood cancers and hematological disorders as well as injuries secondary to trauma/abuse
- 4 East: generally infants, toddlers, and preschoolers
- 4West: generally school age, adolescents and the hematology/oncology population
Number of Beds
- 36 private beds, 8 of which can be adapted into suites for siblings
- 8 semiprivate beds
Special Certification Requirements
- Successful completion of chemotherapy administration training for all nurses who give chemotherapy
- PALS certification (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Special Features
- The Tree House playroom is open from 11a.m. to 8:30p.m. daily. A schedule of activities is posted outside the playroom
- East wing playroom is open daily and is designed for infants and toddlers
- West Adolescent room with fish tank, large TV/VCR, games and puzzles is designed for children 12 and up
- Multimedia room equipped with computers and video
