Research Interests
Research interests of Dr. Gairola are in the area of tobacco smoke toxicology. Research projects are based on the epidemiological evidence suggesting an important role of tobacco smoke exposure in promoting the incidence of various respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Investigations use rodents as animal models and focus on the toxicity of cigarette smoke to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Current projects involve study of i) smoke-induced DNA toxicity, tumorigenesis and protection by chemopreventive agents, and, ii) cardiovascular toxicity of tobacco smoke.
