Meet our Residents

Meet our Interns

To broaden their understanding of the role of surgical management in various disease processes, general surgery residents rotate on surgical subspecialty services during the junior years including pediatric surgery, transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urology, plastic surgery, etc. Senior residents rotating on the pediatric surgery and the cardiothoracic services gain a more comprehensive experience in these principal areas of general surgery.

Most of the training is done at the UK Chandler Medical Center, the parent institution for the General Surgery residency program. UK HealthCare rotations will include UK Good Samaritan Hospital. The VA Medical Center is integrated into the training program, connected via a tunnel and staffed by general surgery faculty. University and VA teaching conferences are combined. Residents rotate at the VA Medical Center during their PGY-1, PGY-3 and PGY-5 years. During their PGY-4 year, general surgery residents rotate at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. During the PGY-2 year, residents rotate at the UK-affiliated community hospital, St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, KY. These rotations allow the resident to participate in a large volume of operative procedures while gaining a perspective on general surgery in urban and rural community settings. Volunteer surgical staff are active in resident education during these rotations.
