GENERAL SURGERY RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM

Residents

The General Surgery Residency Training Program at the University of Kentucky is a five year program fully accredited by the RRC.

To broaden their understanding of the role of surgical management in various disease processes, general surgery residents rotate on surgical subspecialty services during the junior years including pediatric surgery, transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urology, plastic surgery, etc. Senior residents rotating on the pediatric surgery and the cardiothoracic services gain a more comprehensive experience in these principal areas of general surgery. Residents rotate not only through the University of Kentucky Hospital, but also through the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital and St. Claire Regional Medical Center. This provides a broad and extensive surgical experience.

Our Operating Rooms have had continued upgrades and renovations, helping us improve our patient care. Plans for a new bed tower continue to move forward. The surgical services remain busy, providing our residents with excellent opportunities to learn. We are proud of our program and are committed to providing our residents with the best in surgical education.

These and other ongoing changes create an environment that will provide our residents with the opportunity to develop into outstanding surgeons. For more information, click here or on the photo.
