Positions Offered

Two residents are accepted each year, primarily from fourth-year medical school candidates but occasionally from surgical interns or residents from other training programs. The division participates in the American Urological Association (AUA) matching program. Selection of candidates is made on the basis of medical school transcripts, National Board scores, letters of recommendation, and a personal interview. Final ranking is by faculty consensus. Candidate applications and interviews are made in the fall of the fourth year of medical school. An interview with a visit to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center are critical, not only to strengthen the candidate's application, but also to allow him or her the opportunity to assess the merits of the program. Interviews are by invitation and are limited to medical school graduates in the upper half of their medical school classes who have also generally scored at least 220 on Part I of their National Boards.

The University of Kentucky Urologic Surgery Residency Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) and only accepts electronic applications through ERAS. Contact your medical school or ECFMG to complete the application. All ERAS materials should be available in your medical school's Dean's office by July or August.

Application Requirements

For an application to be considered complete and warranting a review, the University of Kentucky Urologic Surgery Residency Program requires the following materials in the ERAS application:

  • Personal Statement
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Three letters of recommendation (including a letter from the Program Director)
  • Dean's Letter
  • USMLE scores (Although USMLE transcripts may appear as optional on the ERAS application, we require that these scores be included. You will need to request official transcripts from NBME be mailed to us through ERAS.)
  • Wallet-sized photo

Only applications completed by Oct 14 will be considered. All materials must be sent electronically using ERAS. Incomplete applications and applications not submitted through ERAS will not be considered. Interview invitations will be sent out in late October via email. Any questions or comments can be sent to Pete Rogers at peter.rogers@uky.edu. For more information on the Lexington area, see http://www.visitlex.com.
