NEWSWORTHY EVENTS

• Kentucky Society of Plastic Surgeons for 2012

The Kentucky Society of Plastic Surgeons (KSPS) Visiting Professor for 2012, Dr. V. Le Roy Young, Professor at Washington University in St. Louis, was a guest of the UK Division of Plastic Surgery. On Monday September 10th, Dr. Young gave lectures on "Patient Safety in Plastic Surgery" and "The Science of Fat Grafting" and heard case presentations by the upper level residents.

In addition, UK's Plastic Surgery residents took the first, second, and third place honors in the KSPS research competition against the University of Louisville. Winners were:

     1st place: Mike Lynch
     2nd place: Jason Buseman
     3rd place: Brad Turner

• A Resident Graduation dinner was held on June 30, 2012 for Joe Hill.

• Dr. Henry Vasconez was invited to give the James Harvey Hendrix Lecture at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi in June 2012.

• On May 12, 2012, the ACGME RRC gave approval for five years of continued accreditation to the Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Program at the University of Kentucky. This culminates a great deal of work and preparation conducted by the staff, residents, and faculty of the Division.

• On May 9, 2012, Dr. Vasconez gave a presentation in the new hospital auditorium on "What's New in Plastic Surgery."

• Paul Cederna, MD, Associate Chair and Professor of the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Department of Surgery, University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor, Michigan, was the 2011 Kentucky Society of Plastic Surgeons Visiting Professor. Dr. Cederna was the guest speaker of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Kentucky Conference on September 12, 2011.
