Wright Earns Gold Medal for Paper

Tiffany Wright, MD's paper — “Hepatobiliary Scanning Standards Fail to Identify Symptomatic Patients with Chronic Acalculous Cholecystitits” — has earned a Gold Medal Paper Award at the Southeastern Surgical Congress in Birmingham, AL on 02/12/2012. Co-authors include MD Stanley, BS; DL Davenport, PhD; JS Roth, MD; and AC Bernard, MD.

• Samantha Aitchison, MD, presented a poster at the Southeastern Surgical Congress in Birmingham, AL on 02/12/2012 entitled “Venovenous ECMO for Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism in Ventral Hernia Repair;” co-authors were Charles Hoopes, MD, and J.S. Roth, MD.

• Levi Procter, MD, gave a poster presentation of “External Illiac Artery Injury after Bicycle Accident” at the Southeastern Surgical Congress in Birmingham, AL on 02/12/2012.

• Dr. Procter has also had a paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Surgical Research: “y+ Cationic Amino Acid Transport of Arginine in Packed Red Blood Cells.”

Procter is Winner of 2011 Committee on Trauma (COT) 34th Annual Residents Trauma Papers Competition

The Committee on Trauma (COT) announced the winners of the 34th annual Residents Trauma Papers Competition at its annual meeting in Washington, DC. The competition is open to surgical residents and trauma fellows. Submissions describe original research in the areas of trauma care and/or prevention in one of two categories: basic laboratory reseach or clinical investigation.

UK General Surgery's Levi Procter was the first place winner in the clinical investigation category with his paper, “Acute Care Surgery Is a Profitable Service LIne in an Appropriately Staffed Hospital.” Congratulations, Dr. Procter!

Nicholson Scholarship Winner 2011

Dr. Procter Levi Procter will be this year’s Charles Nicholson Scholar. The Nicholson Scholar is named each year among the 4th year general surgery residents based upon an application, CV and essay. As the Scholar, Dr. Procter will be taking the Charles Nicholson Clinical Tour during his Chief year, visiting other surgical programs to expand his knowledge and gain new skills. We look forward to hearing about his experiences on the Tour and know he will represent UK well when traveling. Congratulations, Dr. Procter!
