2009-2010 Surgery Faculty Teaching Awards — March 23, 2011

The Ward O. Griffen Surgery Teaching Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education and the Ben Eiseman Surgery Teaching Award for Excellence in Resident Education were established in 1999 to honor faculty members who have demonstrated excellent educational skills and contributed significantly to medical student and resident education over the past academic year. The 2009-10 recipient of the Ward O. Griffen Surgery Award is Dr. H. David Vargas, Associate Professor of Surgery and Section Head of Colorectal Surgery. The 2009-10 recipient of the Ben Eiseman Award is Dr. Eric D. Endean, Gordon L. Hyde Chair in Vascular Surgery, Program Director of the General Susrgery Residency Program, and Section Head of Vascular Surgery.

In 2006-2007, the Department of Surgery decided to award additonal faculty who had high evaluation means (data collected throughout the year from residents and medical students) and recognize their educational contributions with an award entitlted simply, “In recognition of your interest and excellence in medical student and resident education.” The 2009-10 teaching recognition award winners are:
