Resident Program Handbook

Call/Holidays/Schedule
PGY 2 and PGY 3 residents alternate primary call from home an average of every third night. PGY 4 and PGY 5 residents alternate back-up call and take outside phone calls an average of every third night. The otolaryngology, plastic surgery, and oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) services alternate face trauma call every third night. Holiday schedules are arranged among the residents, and each resident averages four weeks of vacation a year (exclusive of holidays). Finally, residents are encouraged to attend and present research at conferences, and travel time is given on an as-needed basis.

Vacation *
-First Year - two weeks
-Second Year & Above -three weeks
-Eight holidays & four holiday bonus days

*In accordance with University policy/or in compliance with board requirements.

Health Insurance
-UK credit for plan and coverage level chosen (2005-2006 Benefits Booklet page 4)

Parking Permit
-Valid in E parking areas

Lab Coats
-Three per year

KY Dental/Medical Licensure
-Medical – Original cost for Residency Training (R) / Institutional Permit (IP) plus yearly renewal

Disability Insurance
-After twelve months of employment

Life Insurance
-$10,000 coverage provided at no cost
-Optional up to three times stipend

Meal Discounts
-35% meal discount
-On call meals when on in-house call

Individual Beeper

Retirement
-Residents are not eligible for the University’s retirement plan (matching contribution), however, you may contribute to the voluntary retirement plan
