SPECIALTY CLINICS

The services offered by each surgical specialty are described below. To find out more about each clinic, click on the name of that service. Several services also offer Regional Clinics or participate in the Multidisciplinary Practices that meet in Markey Cancer Center's Whitney-Hendrickson Building. Transplantation assessments and procedures are offered through the Transplant Center.

Cardiothoracic Surgery Services
Cardiothoracic surgeons provide comprehensive surgical treatments for coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, thoracic and pulmonary disease, esophageal disease, and disease of the mediastinum pleura, chest wall and diaphragm. The division also provides trauma care and the management of patients with end-stage heart and lung disease, including transplantation.

  • Coronary artery bypass grafting with mini-incision (MIDCAB)
  • Electrophysiologic surgery
  • Heart and lung transplantation
  • Heart valve replacement and repair
  • Surgery for heart failure
  • Lung surgery for cancer or infection
  • Surgery for emphysema
  • Valvular heart surgery with mini-incision

General Surgery Services
General surgery clinical services provide all aspects of patient care related to each field of general surgery, including:

  • Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive Surgery
  • Oncology
  • Trauma
  • Vascular and Endocrine Surgery

The faculty provide evaluations, diagnostic workups and follow-up services for patients with common and uncommon surgical problems. Specific specialties are listed with each clinic under General Surgery services.

Plastic Surgery Service
Plastic surgeons provide evaluation and treatment for patients who are candidates for plastic, reconstructive or cosmetic surgery. The faculty provide surgical treatment for congenital anomalies such as facial clefts, craniofacial malformations, large skin lesions, maxillofacial injuries, and thermal burns.

Otolaryngology
Head and Neck Surgery Service

The Otolaryngology surgeons are concerned with all facets of the medical and surgical care of the ear, nose and throat region.  These include pediatric otolaryngology, facial plastic and cosmetic surgery, head and neck cancer surgery, treatment for thyroid and parathyroid disorders and sinus disease, and treatment of major trauma and injuries of the head and neck.

Pediatric Surgery Service
Pediatric surgeons provide diagnostic evaluation and treatment for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital anomalies and acquired conditions of the head and neck, chest wall and thorax, abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, and extremities.  Special services and facilities include a neonatal intensive care unit, a Level I trauma center and a burn unit.

Urology Service
Urology surgeons provide diagnostic and surgical services for all adult and pediatric genitourinary disorders. Special emphasis is placed on oncology, pediatric urology, urodynamics, adrenal surgery, male infertility, incontinence, reconstructive surgery, and renal transplantation.
