We offer a two-year cardiovascular and thoracic surgery fellowship that is approved by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. The first year is a clinical year divided between our University and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. This year provides exposure to general thoracic surgery, congenital cardiac surgery, cardiac and lung transplantation and straightforward adult cardiac surgery.
In the second year, the Fellow serves as the Chief Resident and junior attending on the Thoracic Surgery Service. There is gradual and graded escalation of clinical responsibility to the point that the Senior Fellow is capable of handling all forms of complex cardiac, lung, esophageal and vascular surgical problems. It is expected that upon completion of the fellowship, trainees will achieve certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Selection to the fellowship is done through the National Resident Matching Program. Interested candidates are asked to submit their curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, copies of the ABSITE and board scores, and a completed universal application. Qualified applicants will be invited for an interview.
Start date: July 1
End date: June 30
Applications will be reviewed in March and April.
