Evaluation
The Centerwide and project-specific activities of the Southeast Center benefit from program monitoring and outcomes assessment under the Center's evaluation core. The core is led by Ramona Stone, PhD, MPH. Dr. Stone has a doctorate in program evaluation and policy analysis and recently completed her master of public health degree at the Harvard University School of Public Health (2013). During a career spanning close to two decades, Dr. Stone has directed, designed, executed and reported on social and public health surveys, needs assessment and other program evaluation studies using cross-sectional and longitudinal designs.
The Southeast Center evaluation team communicates and cooperates with representatives of the NIOSH Office of Agricultural Safety and Health (OASH) and with evaluation staff in each of the nine NIOSH-funded Agricultural Centers & the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety. These men and women aim to ensure that each center exercises good stewardship of federal taxpayer dollars while serving stakeholders both regionally and nationally.
NIOSH Ag Center Evaluation workshops were held in Minneapolis, MN (October 2012) and in Fort Collins, CO (April 2013). The latter included presentations by Dr. Ramona Stone and Teresa Donovan, MPH, of the Southeast Center and by NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard, OASH Director Captain Brad Husberg, and Dr. Paul Gunderson, Chair of two independent expert reviews of the NIOSH Agricultural Forestry and Fishing program (2008, 2012).
