About the Center

Bailey-Stumbo Building The UK Center for Excellence in Rural Health was established in 1990 to address health disparities in rural Kentucky, including a chronic shortage of health professionals and residents’ poor health status. The center accomplishes this through health professions education, health policy research, health care service and community engagement. Nearly 80 percent of the center’s graduates are practicing in rural areas, most of them in Kentucky.

The center houses the North Fork Valley Community Health Center, the host clinic for the East Kentucky Family Medicine Residency Program. The center also houses the Kentucky Homeplace program and Kentucky State Office of Rural Health, which are nationally recognized for improving rural residents’ access to health care.

Please visit our Recent Happenings page for news about the Center.
