Lawrence Prybil, Ph.D., FACHE
Associate Dean and Professor
Lawrence Prybil, PhD, FACHE, is a Professor in the Department of Health Services Management in the College of Public Health at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Prybil’s principal research interests are board structures, practices, and performance in nonprofit organizations and healthcare ethics and leadership.
Before coming to the University of Kentucky in April, 2010, Dr. Prybil served on the faculty of the University of Iowa College of Public Health since that College was founded in 1999. At Iowa, he was a Professor of Health Management and Policy and served for several years as Associate Dean and as Senior Advisor to the Dean. Before returning to Iowa to assist in building its College of Public Health, Dr. Prybil served in senior executive positions in two of nation’s largest nonprofit health systems from 1980 to 1999. Prior to those appointments, he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Prybil has served on the governing boards of hospitals, multi-unit health systems, state hospital associations, the American Hospital Association, and other organizations. He presently is directing the third in a series of studies regarding the governance of nonprofit hospitals and health systems and widely recognized for his expertise in healthcare governance and leadership.
