At the adjournment of its annual meeting on September 30, 2012, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Board of Directors voted to elect Baretta Casey, MD, MPH, FAAFP as its next chair, succeeding outgoing Chair Timothy Flynn, MD, FACS. Dr. Casey has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006, prior to which she served as chair-elect and vice chair of the Board, chair of the ACGME Committee on Requirements, and as a member of the Board’s Executive Committee.
Dr. Casey completed her residency in family medicine at the Trover Clinic Foundation in Madisonville, Kentucky. She holds an MD from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where she also earned her MPH in 2006, and a BA from Pikeville College in Pikeville, Kentucky.
Currently, Dr. Casey is a professor in the University of Kentucky College of Public Health in the departments of Health Behavior, Health Systems Management, and Preventive Medicine, as well as a professor in the University’s College of Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Casey serves on multiple national and state medical boards, and has received accolades, awards, and honors for her work in medical education, domestic violence, and community service. Dr. Casey will serve a two-year term as the ACGME Board Chair.
