CHS Physical Therapy

Students

Lexington Campus Class of 2011

Dear Prospective Physical Therapy Student,

As members of the current physical therapy classes, we want to encourage you to explore the University of Kentucky's physical therapy program. Throughout the nine semesters of the curriculum, you will be given the opportunity to develop professionally among peers who share similar interests and aspirations. A mentorship program between first and second year PT classes has been established to ease the transition from undergraduate to graduate training. UK is also fortunate to have a fantastic faculty capable of addressing concerns or questions encountered clinically, academically or professionally.

Physical therapy school is not just academics. Students also participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities including intramurals, community service, local and national physical therapy symposia, and social gatherings. A unique community service opportunity is the Samaritan's Touch Student PT Clinic. At the clinic, current PT students interact and treat patients with clinicians from the community. Some yearly social events include: volleyball, various UK sporting events, and a fall picnic for incoming students. October, National Physical Therapy Month, is an especially busy time of year. In recent years, students have been active in increasing community awareness of the physical therapy profession by visiting local high schools and sponsoring the annual Run For Your Life 5K for a designated charity. Our class selected the Samaritan's Touch Student PT Clinic as our charity. Every October, several students from both classes attend the nationwide Physical Therapy Student Conclave.

The physical therapy program at UK will challenge you with a demanding curriculum while offering the rewards of an excellent education and enduring friendships. Please see the website pages for more information on the program. Good luck in all of your endeavors.

Sincerely,

University of Kentucky Physical Therapy Students Class '11
