Research
There are many opportunities for residents to collaborate on a wide variety of ongoing basic science and clinical research projects. The department takes pride in the many research projects of the faculty as well as the successful collaborations with clinicians and basic scientists in other departments. Residents have the opportunity to join a research study in progress and carve out their own questions or to develop their own hypothesis and research project. Areas of research in the department include Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder; drug abuse (nicotine, alcohol, cocaine and opiates); sensation seeking; sleep disorders; eating disorders; applications of telemedicine in psychiatry; infant psychiatry and attachment disorders; adult and child forensic psychiatry; psychopharmacology; smoking and serious mental illness; and neurobiology of attention deficit disorders. Residents are required to engage in a research or scholarly project during residency, which is presented in their senior year at our annual Senior Resident Research Day. These projects range from bench research and clinical projects to scholarly reviews of topics. Recent resident research projects include:
