MONDAY DIDACTIC CONFERENCE Time: 1-2 PM Topic: Interviewing Techniques Description: On a rotating basis, one resident from the UK Good Samaritan Hospital Inpatient and CL/ER rotations conducts a 30 to 40 minute patient interview with Cletus Carvalho observing. The session is videotaped with the patients’ permission. The resident then formally presents the case along with applicable diagnoses, formulation and treatment plan. Other clinical issues relevant to the case are discussed. Finally, the interview session’s video recording is played back with Dr. Carvalho and the resident observing. The focus here is on the interviewing residents’ strengths and areas for improvement. The entire session, modeled on an oral board exam format, is meant to help residents with their interviewing skills and also prepare them for clinical skills verification exams. According to new American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) guidelines, residents beginning their PGY1 training on or after July 1, 2007 must pass three CSV exams during residency. Time: 2-3 PM Topic: Addiction, CL/ER, and General Psychiatry Description: Residents on the UK Good Samaritan Hospital Inpatient and CL/ER rotations attend this didactic series that is held on a weekly basis. Sessions are either held during rounds, at the bedside or in the resident work area on the inpatient unit. Topics covered are relevant to the areas listed above using cases that residents are actively working with or treating. This teaching session is also open to medical students rotating in Psychiatry at UK Good Samaritan Hospital. |
