Richardson
My major academic focus is in teaching and research in life science education. Areas of class room teaching include physiology, gerontology and teaching of the health care sciences. Research in this area centers on enhancing the learning environment of the classroom. This includes application of the schema theory in learning, the impact of pre-conceptual notions in learning, the effectiveness of combining andragogical and pedagogical methods in the large class setting, the effectiveness of computers in health science education, the application of problem based learning in undergraduate education, and homeostasis as an integrating tool in the biomedical and psychosocial sciences. Recent Publications: Richardson, D., B.J. McCulloch and G.D. Rowles. Homeostasis and complexity as integrating tools in gerontological education, Educational Gerontology 2001. Richardson, D. and B. Birge. Effects of an applied supplemental course on student performance in elementary physiology. Adv. Physiol. Educ.24: 56-61, 2000 Richardson, D.
