Graduates of the University of Kentucky PGY1 Pharmacy Residency will be self-directed learners who: Service Teaching Scholarly Activity The intense twelve-month program provides experiences in a variety of settings, focusing on the core areas of practice specified in the ASHP Accreditation Standards including patient care and practice management. Residents complete a total of 11 rotations, one of which spans the November-December block. Five rotations are required, while the resident is able to select from a menu of options to meet the selective and elective portions of training: |

| Residents develop skills
in verbal and written communication, teaching, and research. The residents participate in
providing 24-hour clinical pharmacy service through the in-house on-call program.

The Department of Pharmacy utilizes automated drug delivery units throughout the hospital; three inpatient satellites located in the operating room, Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center; three outpatient pharmacies, and a central pharmacy area. Services are provided by 70 pharmacists, 60 technicians, 14-15 residents, and 5 managers. Residents have a four to eight hour weekly staffing commitment that is performed in central pharmacy. |
