Dr. Kim Brouwer serves as the George H. Cocolas Distinguished Professor
and Chair of the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental
Therapeutics at the School of Pharmacy, University of North Carolina,
Chapel Hill. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy from Oregon State
University in 1978, completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and
residency (with an emphasis in Pharmacokinetics) at the University of
Kentucky in 1981. Upon completing her residency, Dr. Brouwer continued
work on her Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) which she earned in
1983. She remained in Lexington to pursue post-doctoral training in
drug metabolism at the UK College of Medicine, Department of
Pharmacology. |

Dr. Brouwer joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina in
1986 where she has served as Director of Graduate Studies for the School
of Pharmacy, and also is a Professor in the Curriculum of Toxicology,
School of Medicine. She has
mentored more than 85 undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students, and has published over 125 refereed
journal articles, 165 abstracts, and has written 6 book chapters.
Dr. Brouwer is the PI of an NIH R01 grant funded by the National
Institute of General Medical Sciences in its 16th year of
funding focused on hepatobiliary drug disposition, including alterations
associated with disease states, patient variables, and pharmacologic/toxicologic
interactions.
Dr. Brouwer has established herself as one of the preeminent
translational pharmaceutical scientists. Honors bestowed upon Dr. Brouwer have included a National Rho Chi Graduate Scholarship, National Alpha Lambda Delta Alice Crocker LLoyd Graduate Fellowship, American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education Fellowship, and Smith Kline Beckman Pharmaceutics/Bio-Pharmaceutics AFPE Fellowship. She was the recipient of an American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Young Investigators Program Grant, a PMA Foundation Research Starter Grant, the Hollingsworth Faculty Scholar Award, the PhRMA Foundation Award for Excellence in Pharmaceutics, and the University of Kentucky Inaugural Pharmaceutical Sciences Outstanding Graduate Program Alumni Award. In addition to serving as a member of the NIH Pharmacology Study Section, Dr. Brouwer was elected as a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. As R#103, Kim is the first "triple digit R" (University of Kentucky Pharmacy Resident) to win the Paul F. Parker Award.
