Dr. Miller is Vice President & Chief of Pharmacy of one of the nation’s largest public health systems – Grady Health System in Atlanta, Georgia – and Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy at Mercer University School of Pharmacy.  As Vice President & Chief of Pharmacy, Dr. Miller is responsible for providing managerial, professional, and academic leadership to Grady's pharmacy and clinical nutrition staff of over 300 personnel and 6 post-doctoral residency programs; and for developing new practice, education, and research programs to enhance the quality of patient care and Grady's reputation in the community, state, and nation.  Operationally, Grady’s pharmacy provides service to an acute care hospital with 953 licensed adult beds, a children’s hospital with 82 licensed bed, 11 neighborhood health centers, a hospice, a psychiatric / substance abuse unit, and one of the largest HIV/AIDS clinics in the

nation. Grady’s 13 outpatient prescription pharmacies fill over 1.6 million prescriptions per year, and the overall pharmacy budget exceeds $90,000,000.
 
 
Prior to coming to Grady Health System, Dr. Miller directed pharmacy programs at Hamot Medical Center in Erie Pennsylvania, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia.  At each of these institutions, Dr. Miller initiated a residency program and developed a strong clinical pharmacy program with college of pharmacy affiliations and faculty appointments for clinical preceptors.

Dr. Miller’s commitment to high professional standards, and to encouraging and promoting the expansion of clinical pharmacy practice, is witnessed in the initiation and expansion of residency programs in each institution he served, as well as his service to the profession.  Miller served as a Board Member, Secretary, President, and Chairman of the Board of Director of the Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists over a 15-year period.  In addition, he served in the ASHP House of Delegates for over 13 years, on the ASHP Commission on Credentialing for 6 years, and on the Editorial Board for AJHP for over 10 years.  Most recently, he served as a member of ASHP’s Pharmacy Practice Management Advisory Group, and a member of the ASHP Task Force on Continuity of Care.

Dr. Miller is currently a member of ASHP’s Section Advisory Group on Leadership Development, a member of the ASHP Research & Education Foundation’s Center for Health System Pharmacy Leadership Development Initiative Advisory Committee, Chairman of the University Health System Consortium (UHC) Pharmacy Council Research & Education Committee, a member of the UHC Pharmacy Council Executive Committee, and is well know in the profession for his leadership and innovations in pharmacy practice.  He has also spoken widely about the successful implementation of a co-branded Medicare Drug Discount Card at Grady Health System, and is heavily involved in establishing a co-branded Medicare Part-D plan to assist safety-net hospitals across the nation provide prescription drugs and medication therapy management services (MTMS) to low-income and indigent patients.

Dr. Miller is a Bachelor of Science graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy (1965), and a Doctor of Pharmacy graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (1972).  He also completed a 3-year residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center under Paul F. Parker, D.Sc., serving as Chief Resident in the final year.
