The specialty residency in adult internal medicine provides an in-depth experience from a variety of required rotations. The required rotations include adult internal medicine/pharmacokinetics, infectious diseases, medical intensive care unit, cardiology, emergency department, and hematology/oncology. Other areas for electives include renal/liver transplant, neurology, nutrition, medication use policy, psychiatry, and specialty ambulatory care. The adult internal medicine resident is also encouraged to participate in a longitudinal clinic. Options for these include cardiology/heart failure clinic, anticoagulation clinic, and HIV/infectious diseases clinic. The primary emphasis of the adult internal medicine resident is placed upon the development of clinical practice skills and delivering patient specific pharmaceutical care in both the ambulatory and acute care setting. |
