Application Timeline

  • Take your prerequisite courses for entrance into the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program. Note: Most students apply to the program during their final year of completing the prerequisite courses. Pre-Pharmacy courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester prior to desired enrollment.
(Prior approval must be obtained by students wishing to take required coursework in the summer immediately preceding fall enrollment. Contact the director of admissions.)
  • Take the PCAT (Pharmacy College Admission Test). The PCAT dates may vary from year to year. Check www.pcatweb.info for info on registration deadlines, current test dates, and online registration as well as to request transcripts of previous test scores.
  • For the remainder of the 2007 calendar year, the test dates are:
    June 23, August 25, and October 20
  • Submit your PCAT scores to PharmCAS using code 104. Do not send scores to UK. Please note: For entrance in Fall 2008, we will NOT consider January 2008 PCAT scores.
  • Important PCAT Information
    1. You may take the PCAT as many times as you like.
    2. We do NOT consider PCAT scores that are taken in January of the year in which you wish to enter (example: for entrance in Fall 2008, we will NOT consider January 2008 PCAT scores.)
    3. We do not consider PCAT scores that are over 5 years old.
    4. Additionally, it is important to note that PharmCAS does not carry forward any application data or materials, including PCAT scores, from the previous application year. It will be necessary to request that a transcript of a prior PCAT be sent to PharmCAS.
  • Take the PCAT in June - Many students will be prepared for the PCAT at the end of the sophomore, or second, year (June). At the end of your second undergraduate year, you should have completed general chemistry, math requirements, animal biology, organic chemistry and anatomy. If you should wish to improve your score, you could take the test again in August or October. (Students wishing to complete the prereqs in 2 years, should take the PCAT at the end of their freshman year, in June, keeping in mind that you may not have had some of the content covered on the test, such as organic chemistry and anatomy.)
  • Try to complete your PharmCAS application, www.pharmcas.org, in June or July of the year prior to intended entrance. The admission cycle is expected to open through PharmCAS on June 1 of each year.
  • Important Note regarding your PharmCAS application: PharmCAS WILL NOT begin to verify your transcripts and process your application until you complete the following:
    1. E-submit your complete PharmCAS application
    2. Arrange for sealed official transcripts to be mailed to PharmCAS directly from every U.S. and Canadian postsecondary institution attended
    3. Pay the correct PharmCAS application fee
It is not necessary to wait for the arrival of references, transcripts, fall grades, or PCAT scores to e-submit your application.
  • Try to complete your University of Kentucky supplemental application by August of the year prior to intended entrance. The supplemental application will be posted on our web site by June 15 of each year.

Rolling Admissions

Please note that the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy uses a rolling admissions process. While our application deadline is in early January, we begin review of applications in early September through the Early Decision process. We interview applicants and make admissions decisions on a continual basis until the class is filled.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early (summer months or September) as waiting until the January deadline will mean that many positions in the class will already be filled and interview spaces will be more limited.

Early Decision and Regular Decision Deadline Notes

The interview dates for each admission cycle are set in late summer by our Pharmacy Admissions Office. Those dates may vary considerably from year to year. It is strongly suggested that applicants apply well in advance, 6-8 weeks, of either the Early Decision deadline or the Regular Admission deadline to allow for the time necessary for PharmCAS to verify and process your transcripts.

References

Do not wait for all of your references to be sent to PharmCAS before you e-submit. When the references are received by PharmCAS, they will update your application accordingly.

PCAT Scores

Do NOT wait for your PCAT scores to arrive at PharmCAS before you e-submit. When the PCAT scores are received by PharmCAS, they will update your application accordingly.

Fall Grades

Do not wait for your fall grades to e-submit your PharmCAS application. Put your fall classes (and planned spring classes) in the College Courses Planned or In Progress section of the PharmCAS application. Request that transcripts from all undergraduate schools attended be sent to PharmCAS.

During the academic update window on PharmCAS (mid-December), students can update their application with fall grades and request that an updated transcript be sent to PharmCAS from their school’s Registrar’s office. Students should request that the transcript be held for fall grades. Because it takes PharmCAS approximately 4-6 weeks to verify transcripts, your updated transcript may not be included in the decision-making process regarding interview selection.

Spring Grades

Since admissions decisions are made prior to the end of the spring semester, all applicants must have a grade of C or higher in any required pre-pharmacy course taken in the spring semester prior to entering the College of Pharmacy. A grade less than C in any of these classes will result in a review of status by the Admissions Committee and could result in a rescinding of admission.

Please note that a grade of D or below is not acceptable in any required pre-pharmacy course.
