A completed application for admission to the graduate program leading to the Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences includes the following components:

Application Form

Submit the electronic application available here (preferred method) or send a hard copy of the application to: The Graduate School, 101 Gillis Building, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY 40506-0033.

Statement of Purpose

Your statement of purpose should be submitted to the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program Office. This is an important document that will help our admissions committee decide if your academic preparation, career goals, and research interests are suitable for our programs. Our admission process is designed to identify applicants who will be successful in our program. Our past successful applicants have scored an average of greater than 1200 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and obtained a cumulative undergraduate GPA of B or better (GPA >3.0).

In your statement you should describe any relevant research experience you may already have, and indicate what types of research under Drug Discovery, Drug Development, Therapeutic Areas, or Pharmaceutical Policy (click on the link for the Research pages) you would be most interested in pursuing for a Ph.D. If you are applying for the Pharmaceutical Policy or the Clinical and Experimental Training Track, indicate this specifically in your statement of purpose. Please tell us why you want to spend the next 4 to 5 years of your life in graduate studies at the University of Kentucky. What events, challenges, and opportunities have shaped your enthusiasm for doing pharmaceutical research?

GRE Scores

Submit scores on verbal, quantitative and analytical portions of the Graduate Record Exam. These scores must be sent directly to the Graduate School by the Educational Testing Service. Institutional code: 1837; Dept. code: 0613. No minimum GRE scores are required; however, applicants should be aware that this program is very competitive.

Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts

Official transcripts of academic work from all previous institutions must be submitted to the Graduate School, with a copy to the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program office.

Recommendation

Submit three recommendation forms (recommendation letters also are acceptable) from former faculty, supervisors or others familiar with the applicant's abilities and accomplishments. Recommendation Form [pdf]
