  • Kroger Pharmacy is a supermarket chain pharmacy with over 100 pharmacies in the Mid South Division.
  • Several pharmacies have new designs containing private consultation areas to enhance pharmaceutical care services provided.
  • The resident will work from approximately one to three different Kroger Patient Care Centers in the Lexington/Louisville areas as main educational and disease state management sites. He/she will be able to provide a variety of mobile services throughout the marketing area pharmacies such as diabetes screenings, immunization programs, and health and wellness programs.
  • Many pharmacists in this area at Kroger have received various certifications in disease state management including NIPCO certification programs, APhA's Immunization Delivery training, and Cooper/Clayton Smoking Cessation facilitator's training. Current programs being developed and implemented include smoking cessation, respiratory care, and adult immunizations. The resident will develop and initiate new patient care programs to be implemented in several Kroger pharmacies.
  • The resident will also spend valuable time with local, regional, and corporate pharmacy managers to learn the aspects of chain pharmacy administration. In addition, he/she will have an opportunity to precept and teach professional PharmD clerkship students the aspects of clinical community pharmacy services during their final year rotations.
  • The advantage to working with Kroger pharmacy is the opportunity to implement programs throughout the entire marketing area and potentially influence the practices of many Kroger pharmacies throughout central Kentucky.
  • One of the preceptors, Bill Grise, PharmD has worked with Kroger Pharmacy for 18 years and has established experience and relationships with his patients and many local physicians.
