- APSC is a cooperative of over 170 independent community pharmacies.
- American Pharmacy Services Corporation is a cooperative of over 370 independent community pharmacies whose headquarters are located in Frankfort, Kentucky. The Community pharmacy residency is located in Lexington, KY housed in a traditional community pharmacy.
- The APSC residency program provides the resident the opportunity to participate in a unique direct patient care program providing specialized pharmacy services that focus on disease state management and increasing adherence.
- At the pharmacy level, the resident will provide physical assessments and monitoring services such as bone density, cholesterol, A1c, blood sugar and blood pressure both at the practice site and at health fairs.
- Experiences the resident will gain also include opportunities in compounding services, implementing MTM, patient and caregiver education, immunization services, and traditional community pharmacy.
- The resident will have the opportunity to develop management skills and knowledge in the operation of an independent community pharmacy.
- APSC's Pharmacy Care Division (PCD) provides the resident with a unique opportunity to assist many independent pharmacies with the development, design, marketing, and implementation of enhanced pharmacist care, disease state management programs and clinical services. In-house PCD programs currently available include asthma, dyslipidemia, osteoporosis, diabetes, adult immunizations, and a program designed to help members in conducting pharmacy-based health fairs.
- An enormous advantage to doing a residency at APSC is in the variety. In addition to working at the primary practice site, residents have the opportunity to work with several independent pharmacies affiliated with APSC, and with the supportive and very knowledgeable corporate office.
- At the corporate level, the resident will learn relevant government affairs issues that affect independent pharmacies, develop continuing education programs and facilitate conferences, create new disease state management programs, and precept 4th year PharmD students
- Cathy Hanna, Pharm.D. is the Vice President of Professional Affairs and the resident and student preceptor. Dr. Hanna has over 20 years of experience owning and managing a variety of independent practice sites that include traditional community, long-term care, consulting and direct patient care pharmacy. At APSC she focuses on the development of pharmacy care programs and services for independent pharmacies.
