Shane Winstead - Pharm.D.
Dr. Winstead received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Arkansas College of Pharmacy in 1991. She completed a hospital pharmacy residency at University Hospital of Arkansas. She then earned her Pharm.D. degree at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Winstead has worked as a critical care pharmacist at UK Hospital since 1994. She works with a team of pharmacists to provide comprehensive pharmacy services to all of the Intensive Care units. She is involved with the multidisciplinary protocol/pathway development process with many of the ICU services. She also serves on several hospital committees, including the ICU Committee. Additionally, she provides education on medication issues to the nurses in the units as well as the medical residents and fellows.
Her primary practice area is pulmonary and critical care medicine. She serves as preceptor for Pharm.D. students for the critical care medicine (MICU) rotation. She is also the preceptor for the Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care specialty residents in this area. In addition, Dr. Winstead serves as the program director for the Critical Care Pharmacy Practice Residency at UK. Her specific areas of emphasis include sepsis, ICU sedation/analgesia/neuromuscular blockade, anemia of critical illness, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and continuous renal replacement therapies.
