Ann Amerson - Pharm.D.
Dr. Amerson received her bachelor's and Pharm.D. degrees from the University of Kentucky, and she served as director of the UK Drug Information Center of the Chandler Medical Center from 1974 to 1992. Her responsibilities as clerkships coordinator from 1992 to 1998 involved the development of new experiential training sites for Pharm.D. students. She also has been involved in the development and delivery of the Nontraditional Option of the Pharm.D. program since 1992.
Dr. Amerson has presented local and national programs on drug information education and practice, pharmaceutical care skills development, and nontraditional education innovations. She has published articles on several of these topics, and has served as a reviewer or editorial board member for several journals. She currently is a member of the United States Pharmacopoeia's Committee on Revision and chairs the USP Therapeutic Information Management Advisory Panel.
Dr. Amerson has been active in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, fulfilling the responsibilities of chair of the SIG on Drug and Poison Information Practice and the Commission on Therapeutics. In the American Pharmaceutical Association she is a member of the Scientific Review Panel for Evaluation of Drug Interactions, and she also participated in the OTC Guidelines Project Steering Committee. She has chaired the Clinical Sciences Section of APhA's Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science. In the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy she has held section offices and served as faculty delegate. Other AACP activities have included membership on the Academic Affairs Committee, serving as consultant to the Curricular Resources Consortium on the drug literature evaluation course, and chairing the Academic Sections Coordinating Committee. At the state level, she has served as chair of the Continuing Education Advisory Committee of the Kentucky Pharmacists Association.
In addition to serving as interim division director, Dr. Amerson is curriculum coordinator for the Nontraditional Option of the Pharm.D. program and teaches a drug literature evaluation course for nontraditional Pharm.D. students. She also precepts Pharm.D. students on a hospice clerkship rotation. She has interests in effective drug information access and utilization, as well as student assessment for experiential learning.
