NEONATOLOGY FELLOWSHIP

The University of Kentucky is committed to providing state-of-the art clinical care for the people of Kentucky and to be a national leader in medical research. To that end, the Neonatology Fellowship program is focused on training physician-scientists who expect to enter a career in academic medicine with a research focus. The program is accredited by the ACGME and the AAP. Fellows are selected based on the applicant’s past performance as demonstrated on his/her CV, a personal statement indicating the applicant’s commitment to a career in academic medicine, letters of recommendation and an in-person interview. Applicants who have completed an ACGME accredited residency program are preferred.

After completion of the program, the fellow will be able to demonstrate the professional ability to practice competently and independently as a sub-specialist in Neonatology. The fellow will also have acquired the appropriate clinical and procedural skills, unique to the practice of the subspecialty. After training in education and research, the fellow will be able to function as a consultant to other physicians and provide education to others involved in perinatal and neonatal care. The research training will provide the needed attributes in evaluating evidence available in various studies and to formulate his/her own hypothesis to be tested whether in clinical setting or in the basic science laboratory.
