PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT POST-GRADUATE RESIDENCY IN NEONATOLOGY

High Risk Obstetrics

The 1 month high-risk OB rotation will be split between the Labor/Delivery Service, High-Risk Clinic and Ultrasound Imaging. During this time the PA resident will follow patients on L & D from admission through delivery and post-delivery care. The PA resident will see patients in the high-risk clinic and aid in prenatal counseling of mothers with high-risk pregnancies. The PA resident will observe the ultrasonography process and learn to identify common normal and abnormal findings on ultrasound.

Upon graduation the PA resident will:

  • Be familiar with terminology and language of prenatal conditions and findings
  • Be familiar with the physiologic changes in the mother and fetus associated with normal and abnormal pregnancies.
  • Be able to identify common ultrasound findings of the fetus and their significance
  • Become familiar with the medical management of pregnancy as it relates to labor, delivery and post-delivery care
  • Be familiar with management of maternal and fetal/infant complications of pregnancy
  • Be familiar with the uses and limitations of the various maternal/fetal screening and testing techniques
