Faculty Position Available

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kentucky Medical Center (UKMC), Lexington, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Blood Bank / Transfusion Medicine. Appointment rank will be commensurate with experience and may be in either tenure bearing or non-tenure bearing title series. The position is available as of July 1, 2010. Residency & Training

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine offers a residency program in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as one-year fellowships in cytopathology and surgical pathology. A 2 year combined fellowship in surgical pathology and cytopathology is also available. The AP/CP residency and the cytopathology fellowship are accredited by the ACGME while the surgical pathology fellowship is recognized by the University of Kentucky Graduate Medical Education division.

For the 5th consecutive year, the department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine received the Golden Podium Award for the outstanding second-year course: Mechanisms of Disease and Treatment: Pathology

Paul J. Murphy, M.D., Pathology and Laboratory Medicine received the Pre-Clinical Golden Apple Award for the outstanding instructor in a second-year course: Mechanisms of Disease and Treatment.

Dr. William R. Markesbery received the Zaven Khachuturian Award from the Alzheimer's Association during its 2009 International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease (ICAD 2009) in Vienna, Austria. Markesbery is the Commonwealth Chair in Aging and professor of pathology and neurology, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and director of the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and Alzheimer's Disease Center.

The award, named in honor of Zaven Khachaturian, consultant, lecturer and author, recognizes an individual whose compelling vision, selfless dedication and extraordinary achievement has significantly advanced the field of Alzheimer science.
