Neuroimaging Studies of Depression
in Parkinson's Disease

   

Who may participate in this study?

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you are

  • a right-handed person
  • between 40 and 80 years of age
  • who speaks American English fluently

This study will enroll a total of 120 participants: 80 Parkinson's participants (40 men and 40 women) and 40 neuropsychiatrically normal control participants (20 men and 20 woman). Participants with Parkinson's disease will be in the mild to moderate stage of the disease. Half of the Parkinson's participants (20 men and 20 women) will have a diagnosis of depression.

Depressed and non-depressed Parkinson's participants and control participants will be cross-matched for sex and age.

You may not participate in this study if you

  • are left-handed
  • have less than a 6th grade education
  • have a neurologic illness other than Parkinson's disease
  • have a major psychopathology other than depression
