APPLICATION PROCESS

Position: Five year Categorical Orthopaedic Surgery
NRMP Code: 1848160C0

REQUIREMENTS
The University of Kentucky Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) and only accepts electronic applications through ERAS. Contact your medical school or ECFMG to complete the application. All ERAS materials should be available in your medical school Dean's office by July or August. The ERAS application includes:

  • Electronic Application
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Wallet sized photo
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Dean's Letter
  • USMLE scores*
*Although USMLE transcripts may appear as optional on the ERAS application we require that these scores be included. You will need to request official transcripts from NBME be mailed to us through ERAS.

Foreign medical graduates will need to contact ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) regarding ERAS applications. ECFMG will transmit the application to the University of Kentucky.

All applications must be received by October 25, 2009. Only complete applications will be considered.

INTERVIEW DATES
Interview Dates for 2009-10 will be December 12, 2009 and January 15, 2010.

VISITING UK
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery wants your stay in Lexington to be informative. A Welcome Reception will be held the Friday night prior to each Saturday interview. If you are offered an interview you will receive more information.

On your interview date, you will be given a tour of the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and the hospital facilities.

University of Kentucky College of Medicine Annual Report. This booklet gives a very high level view of all of the breakthroughs in education, research, clinical service and community outreach in the 2007 fiscal year. (The 2008 report will not be done until early 2009.)

The College of Medicine Bulletin. This booklet provides an overview of our teaching philosophy, what it’s like to live in Lexington, highlights our accomplishments in research and clinical care, and explains the new campus and hospital.
