ATHLETIC TRAINERS PROGRAM: 2009 RESEARCH

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine includes a very active group of Athletic Trainers, all certified by the National Association of Athletic Trainers, and therefore entitled to use the degree suffix "ATC" (Athletic Trainer, Certified).

Athletic trainers are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities.

Orthopaedics Department athletic trainers actively support both University of Kentucky sports medicine physicians and local athletes, providing outreach and assistance to high school athletic programs in and around Fayette County, Kentucky, and beyond.
