Office of Health Research and Development

UK Center for Rural Health Danville

Welcome to a new UK Center for Excellence in Rural Health, in Danville. It will eventually serve a large swath Kentucky, from the Ohio River to the Tennessee border. Initially, we will work most closely with these counties: Adair, Boyle, Casey, Garrard, Lincoln, Marion, Mercer, Russell, Taylor and Washington. The host organization in Danville is the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation. The Center will work directly with the University of Kentucky Office of Health Research and Development, and function as a network partner with the other Centers for Rural Health located in Hazard, Morehead, Madisonville and Murray. We will work closely with the South Central, Southern, Northwest and North Central Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) and with the State Office of Rural Health. We intend to develop many other partnerships in support of improving rural health across Kentucky.

The purposes of the Centers for Rural Health are three-fold: assisting rural health service providers improve services and health status of those they serve, promoting health professions education in rural settings and developing community-based research projects designed to enrich the body of knowledge about rural health and its improvement. The over-arching approach for this new Center will be to foster the development of community-based collaborative systems of care that increase capacity in all three areas.
