How To Apply

The University of Kentucky  Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers five PGY-1 positions each year.  These appointments are awarded through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP)

Step1: Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

ERAS collects the following information:
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • USMLE Licensure Exam Transcripts
  • Medical School Performance Evaluations,
    also known as the Dean's Letter
  • Letters of Recommendation (at least 3)
  • Personal Statement
  • ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)
Important Dates:
  • July 1, 2012: ERAS opens for new applications
  • September 15, 2012: Applicants may send their applications to selected schools
  • October 1,  2012: Medical School Performance Evaluations (MSPE's) are released to programs
  • November 2012:  Application deadline
  • March 15, 2012: NRMP Match Results

Step 2: Interview Invitations

An invitation for an interview will be given at anytime after an application is received. 

Applicants are selected for interviews, based on merit, after review of all the application materials.

Step 3: The Interview

Interviews will occur Tuesdays:

Interviews date are:

  • October 30, 2012
  • November 13, 2012
  • November 27, 2012
  • December 11, 2012
  • December 18, 2012

Applicants are invited to participate in the following events:

  • Night-before: A casual dinner  and social will be held at 6:30pm at either deSha's or Portofino's restaurant. Business casual attire is appropriate.
  • Interview Day:  The day begins with a continental breakfast with faculty and residents at 7:30am
  • Department Chairman Welcome:  Wendy Hansen, M.D. will give an introduction to our department and introduce each division chair.
  • Division Chairman Welcome:  Each division chairman will give description of their respective division.
  • Individual interviews: Each applicant will be a part of five separate interviews with two faculty members, the chairman/program director, and two residents.
  • Facility Tour:  A tour of the hospital and medical campus will be given to groups of applicants when they are not interviewing.
  • Resident Slide-Show:  A slide-show presentation about the residency program and resident life will be given to groups of applicants when they are not interviewing.
  • Lunch:  Lunch will be served at 12:30pm.

Step 4: The Match

All PGY-1 positions are offered through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP)

The department follows the policies and agreements set by the NRMP.

Important Dates:
  • September 1, 2012:  Registration begins at 12:00pm EST
  • November 30, 2012:  Applicant registration deadline
  • January 15, 2013:  Begin rank order list entry
  • February 20, 2013:  Rank order list ends at 9:00pm EST
  • March 11, 2013:  Applicants matched and unmatched data posted to the website at 12:00pm EST
  • March 15, 2013:  MATCH DAY!  Results posted to the website at 1:00pm Eastern
