Tuesday Resident Education:Tuesday morning from 7:30am-1:00pm
consists of protected time for resident education. A variety of
activities may occur during this time. Most often, the morning
starts with patient care conference (alternating OB and GYN). We
discuss recent complicated cases, rare cases, or outcomes from
selected cases.
Grand rounds will occur during this time slot as well.
Speakers may include visiting professors, departmental faculty,
or faculty from other departments within the University of
Kentucky.
Gynecology Oncology Chemotherapy Conference
The chemotherapy conferences is a venue to discuss the current
gynecology oncology patients receiving chemotherapy. Their
treatment schedules as well as concomitant radiation therapy are
planned with the inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy coordinators.
Residents are responsible for preparing the week's inpatient
admission orders for selected patients and reviewing their
chemotherapy orders with the gynecology oncology fellow.
Benign Gynecology Conference
The benign gynecology service staffs a pre-operative/ambulatory
gynecology clinic and colposcopy/LEEP clinic on Wednesdays. During
lunch, provided by the clinic, a predetermined chapter is reviewed
and discussed. Topics are chosen from selected operative gynecology,
ambulatory gynecology, and other general gynecology texts. Also, the
operative schedule is reviewed and discussed among the residents and
faculty.
Maternal Fetal Medicine Conference
The Maternal Fetal Medicine Department along with the labor and
delivery and MFM residents conduct an MFM Conference on Thursday
mornings after attending rounds. The conference consists of a
presentation given by acting interns, interns, residents,
neonatologists, or faculty. The conferences cover a wide
range of general obstetric and high risk obstetric topics, i.e.
normal labor, intrapartum GBS prophylaxis, PPROM, POL, fetal
anomalies, fetal monitoring strip review, infectious diseases in
pregnancy, etc. Gynecology Surgical Pig Lab
One Friday per month, the Gynecology residents are able to learn
surgical skills in a surgical pig laboratory. Some examples of the
surgical skills that are practiced are listed:
Central Baptist Patient Care Conference
Residents and the Central Baptist resident activities director meet
each Wednesday morning to discuss interesting and complicated cases.
On selected Wednesday's, residents present topics in a Grand Rounds
format to the volunteer facutly in attendance.
