This laboratory manual is a modified version of the 1999 UK laboratory manual compiled by Dr. Pat Payne and is based on the 1993 UK laboratory manual written by Dr. Charles Ambrose and the 1993 LSU Medical Center - Shreveport Laboratory Manual written by Linda Gilleland. We wish to thank both Dr. Ambrose and Mrs. Gilleland for permission to use their text verbatim. The 1999 revisions were taken from information found in the Tenth Edition of Bailey & Scott’s Diagnostic Microbiology and the Seventh Edition of Manual of Clinical Microbiology.
