Undergraduate students participate in
fundraiser to fight childhood cancer
DanceBlue, a year-long fundraising effort to benefit the
University of Kentucky Pediatric Oncology Clinic, culminated
in March with a 24-hour long dance marathon. UK’s largest
student-run philanthropy raised nearly $425,000 for
pediatric oncology care at the University. With tears and
cheers, the DanceBlue participants celebrated a total that
quite nearly doubled last year's.
This year, a volunteer team of more than 200 students
doubled team participation with 490 students participating
in this year's fund raiser.
Angela Ballard, junior B.S.N. student, was one
of six College of Nursing students to participate. She said that
Dance Blue was an amazing experience for her. "Standing on my
feet for 24 hours was not easy, but I was just one of nearly 500
students, all standing up for the kids. The thought of being
able to make these kids' lives better in any way was very
rewarding. Seeing the kids and their families was great! It was
good to be a part of such a large group of students, all
committed to the same purpose: raising money to fight childhood
cancer."
