As 2008 winds to a close and we prepare
for the onset of 2009, it is with pleasure that I
welcome each and every one of you to the Delta Psi
Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). To all
new members, “Thank you” for joining. For returning
members, we are glad you chose to rejoin!
As a member of Delta Psi, you are now
part of a global community of nurses. President Carol
Huston’s call for being intentionally global
resonates in our world of 2008 in which a cell phone can
span the reach of the world and the internet connects us
worldwide on a daily basis.
The Delta Psi Chapter has upheld the
proud traditions of Sigma Theta Tau International since
1979, despite being surrounded by transformation.
Change has been the watchword for 2008, from the
election of a new U. S. President-elect to the election
of Linda Watts as Vice President and Carole Crabtree as
Secretary. Our chapter membership continues to increase
and to advance knowledge and foster service. For 2008,
Delta Psi members will be donating items to the Humane
Society and God’s Pantry as our service project.
In the words of Stephen Covey,
“Leadership is communicating to people their worth and
potential so clearly that they come to see it in
themselves.” STTI exhorts each of us to realize our
potential by exercising the following actions: use
evidence-based nursing to improve world health, be a
leader, connect globally, exhibit social
responsibility. Through these acts, we become positive
members and role models of a global community. We
become that to which we aspire.
As President of Delta Psi, I encourage
each of you to become active in this global community
and participate in whatever way is possible with the
local chapter in achieving its goals to (1) increase
communication, and (2) strengthen ties between the
academic, clinical, and community members. This
participation begins with communicating with the members
of the Board. When your email or snail mail address
changes, please contact our Secretary or Treasurer so
that we do not lose contact with you. I appeal to each
of you to become involved in our chapter and to contact
me with any suggestions, ideas, etc. of how the chapter
can become more relevant to you. The Board members and
I welcome your feedback and suggestions. Once again,
thank you for reaching out to the global community
through your commitment to Delta Psi and STTI!
Sincerely,
Debra S. Hall, Ph.D., R.N., CCRN
President, Delta Psi
