Links for Kathy Wagner
Kathy Wagner received a diploma in registered nursing from
Butterworth Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Mich.,
in 1969. She earned her B.S.N. (1982) and M.S.N. (1987, clinical
nurse specialist) from the University of Kentucky. In 2006, she
earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Instruction and
Administration at UK’s College of Education, Instructional
Systems Design Program. The general focus of her
dissertation
was case method instruction to enhance cognitive flexibility and
learning transfer in undergraduate nursing students.
Wagner has been a nurse educator since 1983 and is currently a
lecturer at the College of Nursing where she has taught since
1989. She also serves as an educational consultant and instructional designer. In
her lecturer role, she is course coordinator and classroom
instructor for two undergraduate courses, Pathopharmacology and High
Acuity Nursing. In her role as undergraduate nursing program
education consultant, she provides faculty support to
individuals and groups. In her third role as a freelance
instructional designer, she works in the e-Education Products
Division of Elsevier Publishers. She is a member of design teams
that develop web-based educational products primarily in the
areas of pathophysiology and health assessment.
Wagner is co-author and major contributor to a nursing textbook,
High Acuity Nursing, which is now preparing for its fifth
edition. The textbook and its accompanying instructor manual
were selected as American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Books of the
Year in 1998.
Wagner is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society,
American Nurses Association, Kentucky Nurses Association, and
American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She was the
recipient of the Louise Jimm Zegeer Award for Excellence in
Nursing Education at the University of Kentucky in 1995.
