Research Links for Ann Peden Ann Peden received her undergraduate degree in nursing from
Texas Woman’s University and a master's degree in nursing from
UK. In 1991, she completed a Doctorate of
Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The focus of her doctoral research was recovery from depression in
women.
Peden was principal investigator of the study, "The
Process of Recovering in Women Who Have Been Depressed - Phase
II," partially funded by Sigma Theta Tau, Delta Psi Chapter,
and a UK College of Nursing internal award. She was also principal
investigator of the study, "Negative Thoughts of Depressed
Women," funded by the UK Medical Center Research Fund. She
was principal investigator on an AREA grant,
"Prevention of Depression in College Women: A Pilot
Test," funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research.
She recently completed a three-year study of low-income single
mothers in which she used an intervention she developed for
treating depression.
Peden’s research on depression in women has been reported in
a variety of journals, including Nursing Science Quarterly
and The Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.
She also has presented the results of her research at regional and
national conferences, including the Society for Education and
Research in Psychiatric Nursing, the Southeastern Conference of
Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Specialists and the Southern
Nursing Research Society. In 2007 she and co-authors Lynne Hall
and Mary Kay Rayens received the Clinical Scholarship Award from
Sigma Theta Tau International.
Peden is a certified psychiatric-mental health clinical
specialist. She practices at the Saint Joseph Behavioral Medicine
Network in Lexington. She teaches the graduate
psychiatric-mental health nursing course and the nursing theory
course. Peden works individually with master’s and doctoral
students whose emphasis is women’s mental health. |
