Office of Student Services
The College of Nursing Office of Student Services
provides services to all students enrolled in the College
of Nursing to supplement and further
enhance life at the University. Some examples of the
types of assistance include:
Academic Advising
Advising is viewed by our College as an
integral part of your education. Your advisor is concerned about
your physical, emotional, and academic well-being. A sympathetic
listener, your advisor can offer various solutions to problems yet recognizes your right and responsibility to make decisions.
Academic advising is done by a faculty
advisor. Your faculty advisor:
- Will help you with a schedule of courses with
consideration given to what you might realistically be expected
to complete on the basis of your ability
- Will advise you regarding University and
College procedures such as drop/add, repeating
courses, pass/fail options, petitions, etc.
- Will explain academic regulations and their
relationship to your program
- Will keep a record of your grades and
appropriate forms
- Will serve in a referral capacity to direct
you to appropriate individuals and offices to handle academic
procedures
- Professional mentoring
- Will help you sort through non-academic
problems and assist you with appropriate referrals
- Assist you in understanding the philosophy of
the College of Nursing, and to help you relate this philosophy
to your own educational goals
- Elaborate on the course descriptions
presented in the University of Kentucky Bulletin
- Explain the sequence of courses and clinical
experiences
- Assist you in exploring the field of nursing
- Help you adjust to the University environment
- Assist you if you find yourself in academic
difficulty
Registration
Each semester, at specified times, you will be advised and will register for the
next semester's work. Dates for registration are announced in the
student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel. For questions regarding
advance registration procedures, please contact our Office of
Student Services.
