Nurse Scholar's Program

As part of a Research Extensive University (Carnegie Foundation designation), the College of Nursing has an obligation to provide gifted students unique opportunities to participate in the process of knowledge acquisition and utilization beyond the basic expectations for B.S.N. students. Consequently, the College of Nursing has developed the Nurse Scholars' Program. Nurse Scholars are selected based on their exceptional academic performance, previous experiences, leadership potential, faculty references, and interview.

Goals

  • Provide opportunities for in-depth study
  • Enhance professional development
  • Nurture development of future leaders
  • Prepare gifted students for graduate study in nursing

Eligibility Criteria

  • Enrollment in NUR 863: Professional Nursing Through the Lifespan
  • 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • 3.5 GPA in nursing major
  • Demonstrate the following qualities: ability to think critically, excellent communication skills, creativity, self-direction, perseverance, and integrity

    Application Procedure
    Applications are solicited from students who have completed NUR 863 and are entering their junior year.
