Financial Aid and Scholarship Resources
Financial Aid
The Office of Student Financial Aid administers financial aid to
eligible students. As a College of Nursing student you are
eligible for assistance and are encouraged to discuss your needs
with a representative in this office. The University of Kentucky
participates in the Nursing Student Loan Program and the Nursing
Scholarship Program which are sponsored by the federal
government, as well as the "Best in Care" loan program through "The
Student Loan People."
Other forms of assistance, including the "Claudine Gartner
Emergency Loan Fund," are sometimes available through the College.
We urge you to contact our Office of Student Services for further
information on sources of financial aid. Student Services posts
scholarship opportunities on bulletin boards on a regular basis, and
applications are there
for your use.
Scholarships
In addition to the many
University scholarships available to students enrolled in all
colleges, the College of Nursing has several
scholarships/financial
awards available to students indicating an interest in nursing
as a major.
Scholarships/financial
awards awarded to nursing students illustrate the support
extended by alumni and friends, professional, and the community
organizations, and institutions associated with the College. The
amount of the award is dependent upon funds available from the
contributing donors.
Qualifications
Generally, applicants must meet the minimum requirements for
admission to the College of Nursing. In addition to the academic
record, other factors which weigh heavily in the evaluation of
scholarship/financial award applicants include extracurricular
activities, work experience, awards and recognition, community
involvement, recommendations and a personal essay. Interviews
may be requested by the Scholarship Committee.
Qualified students should
complete the attached Nursing Scholarship/Financial Award
Application and return it no later than April 1.
Faculty committees will
review applications for the appropriate scholarship/ financial
award based on the individual applicant’s qualifications and the
specifications of the scholarship. The
amount of scholarship/financial awards, when added to other
sources of financial aid, may not exceed the total annual cost
of attendance as determined by the UK Office of Student
Financial Aid.
