Campus Safety
The following information is provided by the
University of Kentucky Police Department.
"Crime prevention is defined as the anticipation, recognition
and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation of some action
to remove or reduce it. To that end, the University of Kentucky
Police have developed crime prevention programs, established
security standards and implemented physical security techniques
in an effort to create a safer environment for those who live,
study and work on the University of Kentucky campus.
"As a community, we encourage opportunistic crime by our
lackadaisical attitudes. The focus of the Crime Prevention
Office is to create a partnership between the University
community and the police. Our goal is to create a heightened
sense of awareness in each individual so that they may assume a
greater level of responsibility for their own safety.
"To ensure your safety and the safety of others at the
University of Kentucky, you are encouraged to familiarize
yourself with the crime prevention information on the
police department's Web
site. If you have any questions or need additional
information, feel free to contact Officer Alan Saylor at (859)
257-5770 ext. 238 or e-mail our Crime Prevention Office."
The site addresses: coping with threats and violence, (safety
escort service, emergency telephones, safe walking routes) crime
prevention information, educational programs, citizen’s
preparedness guide, emergency services (how to report an
